World Kidney Day 2026

World Kidney Day is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of March with a special theme under the joint initiative of the International Federation of Kidney Foundation – World Kidney Alliance and the International Society of Nephrology to bring awareness in society about kidney diseases. The theme for the year 2026 is: “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet”

India Renal Foundation, being an organization working in the field of kidney for the last 24 years and also an active member of the International Federation of Kidney Foundation, it is our moral responsibility to bring awareness in society regarding kidney diseases with this theme. Keeping this in mind, efforts were made to create awareness by organizing various programs in all our chapters.

Ahmedabad

On 12 March 2026, Thursday, with the cooperation of students of J.G. International Nursing College, a kidney awareness poster exhibition was organized at Shri Nilkanth Mahadev Temple, Ghatlodia along with free testing of BP and diabetes, which affect kidney and other important organs of the body the most. More than 500 visitors benefited from this.

On 13 March 2026, Friday, another kidney disease awareness seminar was organized at Sardar Vallabhbhai Global University (SVGU) for students and faculty members. Renowned nephrologist Dr. Jigar Shrimali was present as the main speaker and delivered an informative lecture.

As part of World Kidney Day, a special kidney awareness program was organized at SPIPA, Gandhinagar for employees working in various departments of the Government of Gujarat, in which detailed information was given about structure, functions, diseases of kidney and methods of prevention.

Bhavnagar

A kidney awareness seminar was organized by India Renal Foundation, Bhavnagar Chapter in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society Bhavnagar, Shri Sahajanand Institute of Nursing College and BIMS Kidney Hospital. In this seminar, renowned nephrologist Dr. Tanmay Vagh provided important guidance through a detailed presentation on kidney diseases, preventive measures, proper care, diet and kidney transplant.

Mehsana

On 12 March 2026, a kidney awareness rally was organized by Mehsana Chapter from Vivekanand School to Gurudwara with the cooperation of students of Vivekanand School. Also, along with a free BP and diabetes check-up camp in the school premises, a drawing competition was organized to increase awareness among students. The first three winners were awarded prizes.

Vadodara

On 12 March, an awareness program was organized by Vadodara Chapter for officers of Execom Company located in Luna village.

On the same day, another BP, diabetes and kidney check-up camp was organized at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev Temple, Lalbaug, Vadodara.

Surat

On 22 March 2026, World Kidney Day was celebrated by India Renal Foundation, Surat Chapter at The Surat Tennis Club, Athwalines. Renowned nephrologist Dr. Deepakbhai Tamakuwala was present as the main speaker and explained kidney and kidney diseases in detail in a simple language. Chairman Shri Sharadbhai Kapadia and Honorary Secretary Smt. Jignasaben Trivedi were present and explained the activities of India Renal Foundation and the purpose of celebrating World Kidney Day.

Gir-Somnath

On 17 March 2026, a kidney awareness rally was organized by Rajkot Chapter at Veraval, Somnath in collaboration with Shishu Mandir School, in which students participated enthusiastically and spread the message of kidney health awareness in society.

Rajkot

On this day, Rajkot Chapter organized kidney awareness programs at Harivandana Physiotherapy College, Rajkot and at Mavdi Ward Office of Rajkot Municipal Corporation.

World Kidney Day 2024

International Federation of Kidney Foundation (IFKF) and the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) celebrate the second Thursday of every March as ‘World Kidney Day’ with the aim of making everyone aware of kidney diseases. It helps in broadcasting the importance of ‘Amazing Kidneys” in our overall health and reducing the frequency of kidney disease worldwide.

WKD theme for the year 2024 is – “Kidney Health for All – Advancing Equitable Access to care and optimal medication practice”

Part of the celebration of World Kidney Day on 14th March, 2024. Many events and awareness programmes organized by India Renal foundation in all chapters across the state of Gujarat.

Ahmedabad

On 14thMarch 2024, Thursday, on the occasion of ‘World Kidney Day ’A Kidney Awareness Poster Exhibition, BP-Diabetes and Kidney Checkup` Camp were organized in collaboration with students of J.G International Nursing College at Shree OmKareshwar Mahadev Temple, Jodhpur, Satellite, Ahmedabad. The students made every citizen visiting the temple aware of kidney disease through awareness posters and also checked their blood pressure and diabetes.

As part of the celebration of world kidney day, a public awareness seminar was organized by India Renal Foundation at Government Polytechnic College, Ambawadi, Ahmedabad for all faculty members and students, in which senior urologist of the city, Dr. Himanshu Shah was present as the keynote speaker and gave detailed information about kidney and Kidney Stone. Shri Bharatbhai Modi, Member of the Advisory Committee of the organization was especially present in this seminar.

One more seminar was organized by IRF on Friday, 15th March, 2024, at GMERS Medical College, Sola, to realize the purpose of World Kidney Day 2024 and made the upcoming generation of doctors aware of the latest updates in the field of kidney. In this seminar, the well-known Dr. Siddharth Mavani (nephrologists) was invited as a speaker, who gave detailed information to the medical students on the above topic through power point presentation. It was well attended programme.

Bhavnagar

On the occasion of World Kidney Day, 2024, India Renal Foundation Bhavnagar and students of Tejashwi School jointly organized a Kidney Awareness Rally. During the rally, all students enthusiastically participated and showed interest by holding posters of the prevention of kidney disease on the main road of the Bhavnagar city.

Secondly, an open drawing competition was organized with the support of Red Cross Society and Tejashwi School. Children enthusiastically participated in this drawing competition. Where all participated made drawings related to kidneys.

Thirdly, a kidney awareness seminar was held at the District Institute of Education & Training Shyamapara village. Active member of Bhavnagar Advisory Committee Mr. Sumitbhai Thakkar and Mr. Maheshbhai Chudasama (member of DIET) was present in this seminar.

Vadodara

As part of World Kidney Day celebrations, a seminar was organized for the students of Sigma Nursing College on 30 March 2024 in association with India Renal Foundation and Sigma University. Renowned Nephrologist Dr. Harshal Joshi of Vadodara was present as the keynote speaker in this program. He explained in very simple language about kidney and kidney diseases as well as cadaver organ donation. In this program Mrs. Rashmiben, Principal of Nursing College and Head of Social Work Faculty Shri Jagdishbhai Solanki were present. The questions asked by student and staff about kidney disease and kidney stone.

Mehsana

On 20th march, 2024, a kidney awareness programme was organized by India Renal Foundation Mehsana Chapter at College of Horticulture, Jagudan, on the occasion of World Kidney Day 2024. In this programme renowned Nephrologists Dr. Neel Patel was invited as a keynote speaker who gave detailed information about kidney disease.

One more programme was organized for all faculty members as well as students of the Dantiwada Agricultural University.  Which guidance was given by Dr. Jayesh Modi (Urologist) to protect kidneys from disease. In this program diabetes- blood pressure, kidney checkup and other tests were done at concessional rates.

Rajkot

India Renal Foundation Rajkot chapter was conducted kidney awareness programme at the Government Nursing College. Dr. Danish Savalia (Nephrologists) discussed the prevention of kidney disease. Secondly, kidney awareness program was conducted at SRPF Police Rajkot.

Surat

As part of the celebration of ‘Diabetes Awareness Week’ India Renal Foundation Ahmedabad organized Kidney and Diabetes Awareness Seminar on 23rd September 2023, Saturday at Gujarat Police Training Centre, Shahibaug for Gujarat Police personnel. Dr. Vivek Patel (diabetologist) and Dr. Sudeep Desai (nephrologist) were present as key speakers in the program. BP and diabetes screening camp was also held for every policeman. 312 policemen took advantage of camp.

In line with the celebration of ‘Diabetes Awareness Week’, a Kidney and Diabetes Awareness Seminar was organized for students and faculty at Gujarat University, School of Sciences Department on September 25, 2023. Dr. R.C Damani (diabetologist) and Dr. Jay Patel (nephrologist) were present as key speakers in the program. Both the doctors gave detailed information about diabetes and kidney disease in simple language through power point presentation.
